Ryanair flight forced to make U-turn after 'mid-air emergency' reported 192 miles into Tenerife trip

A Ryanair flight bound for Tenerife was forced to make an emergency return to Birmingham Airport yesterday afternoon following a medical incident onboard.
The Boeing 737-800, operating as flight FR1121, had departed Birmingham at approximately 3.35pm but turned back shortly after take-off when the medical emergency occurred.
The aircraft, which can accommodate 189 passengers, was met by emergency services upon landing at Birmingham Airport. The budget airline's flight had been scheduled to reach Tenerife South after a journey of four hours and 23 minutes.
Emergency crews were positioned on the tarmac as a precautionary measure when the aircraft made its unplanned return to Birmingham.
A Birmingham Airport spokesman said: "Due to a medical emergency on board, an aircraft returned shortly after take-off. Our on-site fire service responded to this as a precaution and part of our procedures for an unplanned landing."
The flight was rescheduled to depart Birmingham after 8pm yesterday evening. This meant passengers would arrive at their Canary Islands destination after midnight today.
West Midlands Ambulance Service and Ryanair have been contacted for additional information about the incident.
