A bull caused significant disruption in Birmingham on Friday morning after breaking free and running through the city streets. West Midlands Police received reports of the animal on the loose near New Bond Street at approximately 09:30 BST.
Officers immediately responded to the scene, where the bull was spotted running along roads and pavements in the area. The large animal, which bore a yellow ear tag and prominent horns, drew crowds of astonished onlookers as it made its way through the city.
Police began coordinating with Birmingham City Council and other agencies to safely contain the animal.
The bull's journey began in Small Heath before it covered much of East Birmingham during its hours of freedom. Video footage shared on social media showed the animal trotting along pavements and roads, appearing relatively calm despite the unusual circumstances.

Motorists stopped their vehicles to watch in disbelief as the bull passed by. At one point, the animal charged towards a lorry before changing direction and heading towards a roundabout.
Despite the bull's imposing size - with these animals capable of weighing up to 1,000kg - no injuries were reported during the incident. The animal did not display aggressive behaviour towards the public.
Police and council officials worked together throughout the morning to ensure the bull's safe capture. The animal was eventually secured after several hours and transported to a more suitable environment.
Councillor Majid Mahmood, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, praised the response: "This magnificent animal seemed to be enjoying an unexpected city break. Well done too to our animal welfare staff and park rangers who are ensuring it is safe and well and the public are safe."

Birmingham has a long-standing connection with bulls dating back to the 16th century, when bull-baiting became popular in the city. This historical association continues today through various cultural landmarks and symbols.
The city's famous Bullring shopping centre, which features a large bronze bull statue at its entrance, serves as an iconic reminder of this heritage. More recently, Ozzy the bull served as a mascot during Birmingham's hosting of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The origins of Friday's runaway bull remain unknown, with authorities yet to determine where the animal came from or how it escaped into the city streets.
