Vladimir Putin's air force has accidentally killed two Russian paratroopers in its latest gaffe.

Russian air forces in Rostov managed to bomb their own troops at the Kuzminsky military training range, just 30 miles (50km) from the Ukrainian border.

The incident was widely shared on Telegram and reportedly happened as troops were engaged in a training exercise.

One of the operators of the anti-aircraft gun supposedly thought one group of Russian soldiers were in fact members of the Ukrainian armed forces.

This isn't the first time the Russian forces have managed to open fire on their own troops during the invasion of Ukraine.

Last week, they dropped a bomb on the Russian village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh region.

That was followed by the Russian Defence Ministry releasing a statement claiming that no one was injured.

The statement read: “On January 2, at about 09.00am, during a flight of a VKS aircraft over the village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh region, an abnormal discharge of aircraft ammunition occurred.”

Russian media described the act as an "emergency release" one that damaged several buildings.

This is the latest in a list of disappointing results for Putin's forces since the start of this year.

The Kremlin unleashed a brutal barrage of £8million missiles and kamikaze drones on the cities of Kyiv and Kharkiv.

Ukraine confirmed that at least five people had been killed and 135 were injured in the attacks.

However, all 10 of the Russian Kinzhal missiles were shot down by the Ukrainian anti-air defences.

Ukrainian army's commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhny said: “Today, the Ukrainian air force downed 10 out of 10 Russian 'Kinzhal'... aeroballistic missiles with the help of the Patriot AD system.

“This is a record. If the missiles hit their targets, the consequences would be catastrophic.”

He added: “There is no reason to believe that the enemy will stop here. Therefore, we need more systems and munition for them.”
