Pro-Palestine protesters have vowed to go ahead with a planned demonstration this weekend despite Israel and Hamas’ agreement to the initial phases of a Gaza ceasefire deal.

The march, drawing in hundreds of activists, is set to take place at Victoria Embankment in London on Saturday.

The demonstration has had backing from Jeremy Corbyn's Your Party, who encouraged supporters to attend.

In a post to X this morning, the recently-founded party wrote: "Until the genocide ends. Until Gaza breathes. Until apartheid falls.

"Until the occupation is defeated. Until we have justice. We march on. Join the national Palestine demo in London this Saturday."

The march is set to go ahead despite news this morning that Israel and Hamas had signed off on the first phase of Donald Trump's proposed peace plan.

The US president said late on Wednesday that the warring parties had agreed to the "first phase" of his plan to pause fighting and release at least some hostages and prisoners, in what Sir Keir Starmer described as a "moment of profound relief that will be felt around the world".

"I welcome the news that a deal has been reached on the first stage of President Trump’s peace plan for Gaza," the Prime Minister said.

“This is a moment of profound relief that will be felt all around the world, but particularly for the hostages, their families, and for the civilian population of Gaza, who have all endured unimaginable suffering over the last two years.”

The “tireless diplomatic efforts” of the US, as well as Egypt, Qatar and Turkey have been crucial in moving towards peace, Sir Keir said.

He added: “This agreement must now be implemented in full, without delay, and accompanied by the immediate lifting of all restrictions on life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza."
