Princess Josephine of Denmark has made a break from current royal tradition by choosing to continue her studies at a boarding school far removed from her siblings and parents.

The 14-year-old daughter of Queen Mary and King Frederik will continue her secondary education later this month.

Josephine’s decision was announced as part of a rare communication from the Danish Palace that detailed the current plans for each of the four royal children.

The Princess will begin the next phase of her education at Spir Efterskole in Snaptun, a picturesque municipality 174 miles from Copenhagen.

Josephine had been attending Tranegardsskolen school alongside her twin brother, Prince Vincent.

She then attended Kildegaard Privatskole in Hellerup on the outskirts of the nation’s capital.

However, her latest move will be a new level of independence for the young Princess.

Denmark’s unique Efterskole school program allows students aged 14 to 18 to spend two years of their secondary education at a boarding institution.

Spir Eferskole describes itself as a "research-informed continued education school that aims to support young people in developing professionally, personally and socially in a strong community – based on new knowledge about learning and well-being".

They also promise to equip students with: "The tools to both take responsibility for their lives and contribute to communities and society."

Meanwhile, Prince Vincent will continue on at Tranegardsskolen without his twin sister.

As for Josephine’s older siblings, Princess Isabella will continue her final year at Hellerup’s Øregård Gymnasium.

Isabella, who recently turned 18, raised eyebrows recently with an explicit outfit choice while attending a music festival.

Crown Prince Christian has already moved into back into the Antvorskov barracks to continue his military career.

The 19-year-old heir to the Danish throne will take on his Lieutenant's training after graduating from the Guard Hussar Regiment earlier this year.

It is currently unknown what subjecting Josephine will undertake when she moves to boarding school later this month.

However, it recently emerged that the 14-year-old has a flair for acting.

Josephine made her screen debut on a Danish TV show on 2024, Tidsrejsen 2 (Time Travel 2).

This may give her something in common with Britain’s Prince George, who is set to begin secondary education next year.

It has been rumoured he or one of his siblings may have an interest in dramatic arts based on Princess Kate’s inquiries about while touring potential schools.
