Rocky Mountaineer has announced a new limited-time rail route through the Canadian Rockies, scheduled to operate exclusively during summer 2026.
The new itinerary, titled 'Passage to the Peaks', will run between Banff and Jasper, offering passengers a rare opportunity to travel between the two mountain towns by rail.
Unlike the company’s established routes, which typically extend westward to Vancouver, this new service remains entirely within the Canadian Rockies.
It will also include an overnight stop in Kamloops, British Columbia, and select packages will feature stays in Lake Louise, a popular destination in Banff National Park.

According to the operator, the route has been designed as an alternative Canadian destination for summer 2026, when Vancouver is expected to see high visitor volumes due to its role as a host city for the FIFA World Cup.
The company notes that "2026 will be the only year this route is offered", making it a unique option for travellers seeking a quieter, mountain-focused experience.
The new itinerary provides a streamlined connection between two of Canada’s most visited national parks, Banff and Jasper, which typically require a combined or circular journey.
Travellers will have the option to book packages that include airport transfers to and from Calgary or Edmonton, the nearest major cities.
The journey showcases a range of mountain landscapes, from the towering peaks of the Alberta Rockies to the rolling interior plateaus of British Columbia. Highlights include travel through Morant’s Curve, views of glacial lakes and icefields, and onboard perks such as panoramic views and regional cuisine.
Rocky Mountaineer describes the experience as “all mountains, all the time,” with the route specifically designed to remain within the alpine regions throughout the journey.
Bookings are now open, with limited departure dates expected to fill quickly due to the exclusive nature of the offering. Packages are available through Rocky Mountaineer’s website and authorised travel providers.

This is not the only recent rail news, as a train route connecting London to stunning coastal towns in 90 minutes will return after five years.
This will make it easier for Britons to enjoy a staycation and give them more options when booking a UK break.
Holidaymakers were also given good news as a train company announced plans for new direct routes between major European capitals.
The new routes are planned for May 2026, when Prague, Copenhagen and Berlin will become connected by a single service.
