NextImg:Neighbour publicly shames state of garden next door as pictures and horrifying story shared online

A frustrated homeowner has taken to social media to expose their neighbour's neglected swimming pool, which has become a death trap for local wildlife.

The anonymous Reddit user shared shocking photographs from their kitchen window showing a stagnant pool where a squirrel had drowned.

"This is my neighbour's disgusting pool. Squirrel drowned in it today," the homeowner wrote on the r/Wellthatsucks forum under the username @kp33ze.

The disturbing image revealed murky water that had been left untreated for nearly three years.

The homeowner described witnessing the squirrel's desperate struggle in the contaminated water. "Today I saw something moving in it...first I thought it was some sort of fish, but nope it was a squirrel that fell in," they explained in their post.

After alerting the neighbour about the trapped animal, the homeowner was met with indifference.

"Went over and let my neighbour know but by the time she got back there the squirrel was dead. She took it out and just left it behind the pool," they recounted.

The frustrated resident attempted to persuade their neighbour to take action. "I asked her to drain it, cover it or at least put something in there to let animals climb out if they fall in," they wrote.

However, the neighbour refused to address the hazard, claiming she didn't want to "scratch" the bottom and was "moving out in a couple days... so not her problem."

The exasperated homeowner has since contacted local authorities. "I sent a message to the city, hoping they will send someone, but who knows," they added.

The Reddit community responded with a mixture of horror and debate over the situation. "That's a breeding ground for mosquitos," one user commented, whilst another described it as "a giant petri dish."

Some users questioned the homeowner's approach. "Why don't you help them clean it then? What happened to the sense of community?" one person asked.

The original poster defended their position, explaining their neighbour had displayed a "not my problem" attitude and they couldn't enter the property without permission.

When challenged about interfering with private property matters, the homeowner justified their concerns. "Because dead animals in their pool stink. And then I smell that smell," they responded.

The property's overall condition drew further criticism, with one commenter declaring: "That entire yard is a code violation."
