



"Multiple people" are feared dead after a car crashed into a crowd celebrating New Year on a popular party street in a major US city, according to reports.
The vehicle reportedly hit a group of people along Bourbon Street in New Orleans at around 3.15am this morning, local time.
New Orleans police are yet to confirm the number of deaths, although local media have reported that the total could be as high as 10.
After a car ploughed into a crowd along the street, its driver exited the vehicle and began to fire a weapon as police returned fire, eyewitnesses have told CBS News.

A man, claiming to have witnessed the horrific incident, wrote online that he saw an SUV "speeding" down the road and "running people over".
One alleged witness recounted the event, claiming that she saw the car hit the crowds and started to run, local news outlet WLWT reports.
