



Morrisons is set to begin shutting more than a dozen of its shops in just a few days' time, the supermarket has confirmed.
In its bid to "reinvigorate" the company, the retailer confirmed the "closure and re-allocation" of a number of Morrisons Daily stores is "the only sensible option", according to The Sun.

GETTYMeanwhile in Haxby, local MP Luke Charters said his store's closure would be "sad news for those who rely on these services for their jobs and daily needs".
It's not just the Morrisons shops, however - inside several stores sit mini-Post Office branches.
A statement from the Post Office reads: "Morrisons has made the difficult decision to close some Morrisons Daily stores, some of which contain Post Offices.
"We fully recognise the inconvenience this will cause for our customers and apologise for the short notification as these branches close between 9 April and 14 May.

"We have reviewed Post Office provision in these areas and for most of these affected branches we are advertising the vacancies."

However, local reports indicate the Shenfield store could yet be saved - EssexLive reported that the Post Office inside could be moved further down the road.
Last month, the supermarket said it would also be closing 18 Market Kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies across Britain - leaving 365 workers at risk of redundancy.
Morrisons chief executive Rami Baitieh said: "In most locations the Morrisons Cafe has a bright future, but a minority have specific local challenges and in those locations, regrettably, closure and re-allocation of the space is the only sensible option."
