Ofgem's energy price cap sets the limit a household of average usage can be charged by suppliers per unit of gas and electricity, however concerns have been raised that more needs to be done to tackle the cost of living.

The energy regulator's restriction was introduced in 2019 with the aim preventing the millions of British families being slapped on expensive variable tariffs.

From October 1, the energy price cap will rise by two per cent to £1,755 annually from £1,720 a year for a typical use household paying by Direct Debit.
