Former miner David Turton says the anniversary of the miners’ strikes makes him “angry, sad and proud”.

He spoke to GB News’s Yorkshire and Humber reporter Anna Riley and gave a candid account about what they mean to him.

“It makes me angry, sad and proud”, he said.

“Angry about the loss of an industry. Proud of every man who gave up a year’s wages in the fight and sad about the loss of an industry.

“We lost the industry thanks to one person, Margaret Thatcher.”

He branded the strike a “war on the working classes”.

Asked what he wants to see from Jeremy Hunt’s Spring Budget, he demanded higher taxation.

It comes as Tory MPs put pressure on the Chancellor to lower taxes in a bid to succour favour with the electorate ahead of the election.

But Turton thinks higher taxes would boost the UK’s infrastructure and allow further investment in public services.
