People's Channel star Matt Goodwin has launched a scathing attack on Britain's latest population statistics, branding the annual increase of 700,000 people as "a disaster" during his appearance on GB News.
The academic and author expressed alarm at what he termed a "population explosion" after new Office for National Statistics data revealed the surge represented the second-highest yearly growth since records began in 1949.
"This is a disaster and more evidence of our population explosion," Matt declared on GB News.
He emphasised the historical significance of the figures, noting that only the previous year's increase of 821,210 exceeded this latest jump.

The ONS data showed England and Wales's population reached 61.8 million by mid-2024, with international migration accounting for 98 per cent of the growth.
Goodwin argued that immigration has become the exclusive factor behind Britain's demographic expansion, marking a fundamental shift from historical patterns.
"Mass immigration is now the only driver of our population," he stated, contrasting this with earlier decades when natural population change - births exceeding deaths - had been the primary cause of growth.
He pointed out that before the 2000s, population increases resulted from "the British having children and those children being more numerous than those passing away."

The commentator highlighted that birth rates have plummeted to near-record lows, reinforcing his assertion that immigration alone sustains population growth.
Official statistics support this claim, with net international migration contributing 690,147 people compared to just 29,982 from natural change in the year to June 2024.
Goodwin called for dramatic policy changes to address what he views as an immigration crisis threatening Britain's demographic future.
"We need to end mass, uncontrolled immigration and have a Government incentivising people to have more children and talk about pro-family policy," he insisted during the broadcast.

His proposals echo concerns raised by Government officials about Britain's declining birth rate, which has fallen to 1.44 children per woman - the lowest since records began in 1938.
The Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson recently acknowledged the need to support young people who want children, citing housing costs and living expenses as major deterrents.
The GB News star's intervention comes as political leaders across the spectrum grapple with immigration policy, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledging reforms to reduce migration numbers.
Matt's rhetoric intensified as he warned against what he characterised as Britain's fundamental transformation through immigration.
"We need one that says, 'we don't want to live through the complete transformation, some might say replacement, of our nation through mass, uncontrolled immigration'," he stated.
The commentator dismissed comparisons suggesting the population increase equated to adding a city the size of Liverpool, arguing such analogies failed to capture the immigration-driven nature of the growth.
"It has to stop," Matt concluded emphatically, positioning himself alongside Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who described the figures as "disastrous for the quality of life for everyone in the country."
