A 20-year-old man has been remanded in custody having been charged with the attempted murder of an “innocent bystander” 32-year-old mother who was stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival.

Shakiel Thibou appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court where he was also charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon. He gave no plea.

He was charged alongside his brothers Sheldon Thibou, 24, and Shaeim Thibou, 22, who were also both remanded in custody.

Sheldon was charged with violent disorder, possession of a stun gun and assaulting an emergency worker. He made no plea.

Shaeim was charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker. He indicated a plea of not guilty to both charges.

All of their cases were sent to the Old Bailey for September 25.

The prosecution said that the alleged attempted murder occurred on Sunday at Notting Hill Carnival, where the victim had attended with her 3-year-old daughter and other family members and friends.

The prosecution said, “she was an innocent bystander, she had nothing to do with the defendants”.

The prosecution added that the injuries suffered by the mother were “life-changing”.

The court heard that after the stabbing, the woman went into cardiac arrest, and lost 20 units of blood.

One of her lungs collapsed and she remains in hospital in a coma.

The judge said that Shakiel will attend on 25 September but denied a bail application.

Shakiel hugged and exchanged words with his brothers as he left the dock.

Sheldon was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 25 September.

His barrister said Sheldon denied assaulting a police officer, but he did not give a plea to the two charges.

Shaeim Thibou indicated a plea of not guilty to both violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker.

Shaeim’s defence said that there were two fights taking place, and that Shaiem saw his brother being “brutally attacked” by people he did not know. He denies using any “unlawful” violence.

Shaeim was remanded in custody until his next hearing at the Old Bailey on 25 September.
