Footage shared online shows a terraced house with its roof caved in, while the property's next-door neighbours sustained further damage to windows and exterior.

Howard’s body was recovered from under the debris after emergency services were called at 7.39pm.

Buildings near the incident remain without power, and the council is providing support to those affected.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation to identify the cause of the explosion and to ensure all local residents are accounted for.

Chief Inspector Clive Collings, from Nottinghamshire Police, said on Monday: “I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the wife, daughters and friends of the victim. I would also like to thank the local community and people of Worksop.”

“It is obviously a live investigation so we are still in the process of trying to understand why this has happened.

“If there is anyone who knows anything or has seen anything that could help us with our investigation could they please call 101.”

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow added: “Our thoughts are very much with David's loved ones at this devastating time.
