Motorists are facing long delays and standstill traffic this morning following a serious collision, which has caused havoc on the transport network.

The M60 clockwise is closed between J6 (Sale) and J9 (Trafford Park) due to a serious collision, with traffic now being diverted locally.

Taking to social media, National Highways: North-West urged drivers to be aware of long delays on the approach to the scene of the accident.

It warned that congestion was backed up to Junction 3 due to the closure between J6 and J9.

Traffic is being turned via the rear of the queue, with National Highways Traffic Officers assisting with the situation.

Drivers looking to exit the area should follow the clockwise closure diversion route, with drivers advised to exit at J6 and use the A6144, A56.

Once they are here, they are at J7, they should follow the signs for Carrington (A6144) and follow the B5158 through Urmston to rejoin the M60 at Junction 9.

Greater Manchester Police has reported that a car crashed into the central reservation between J9 and J10 on the M60 earlier today.

The driver of the vehicle has been taken to hospital, and reports suggest they may have suffered a medical episode prior to the collision.
