



One woman has died and multiple others are injured after a serious motorway crash, which will see the M4 closed for most of the day.
Wiltshire Police announced the death of a woman in her 40s, who died on the scene, in a major crash on the M4 between Junctions 16 and 17.
The crash took place at 11.30pm on Sunday (June 22) evening. A woman in her 70s has sustained serious injuries.
National Highways has warned that the M4 westbound remains closed between Swindon and Chippenham for investigation work.

The transport authority warned that the stretch of motorway is likely to remain closed for the rest of the day.
Police added that five people in the same car suffered minor injuries, in addition to three people travelling in the other car.
Everyone involved in the accident on the M4 has been taken to hospital for treatment.
National Highways: South West announced that Wiltshire Police, South Western Ambulance Service and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance.

It added that its area team crews had been requested to attend the scene once investigations are complete. They will assess damage to the nearside barrier following the collision.
A Swindon Police spokesperson said: "Our Serious Collision Team are at the scene carrying out an investigation into what happened, and the motorway is likely to remain closed westbound for most of the day.
"We have received reports that a white vehicle may have been involved and left the scene."
The police are also calling for any witnesses who may have dashcam footage to come forward to assist with the investigation.
