


M1 traffic: 'Significant spillage' from serious collision causes hour-long delays and gridlock chaos

Motorists in the East Midlands are being warned to avoid a popular stretch of road as traffic officers deal with an accident that has caused road closures.
National Highways is warning that the M1 is closed northbound at J29A Markham Vale, Bolsover, due to a serious collision.
Traffic is being diverted off at the exit slip and back on the entry slip as traffic maps show long lines of cars waiting in standstill congestion.
The latest update from National Highways: East Midlands warned that emergency resurfacing would have to take place as the collision resulted in a "significant spillage".

Vehicles continue to be diverted via the exit and entry slip roads, with delays of at least 90 minutes on the approach.
A statement from National Highways: East Midlands confirmed that the M1 in Derbyshire remains closed northbound within J29A for Chesterfield/Bolsover.
Traffic maps show that traffic conditions are expected to return to normal in around two hours.
However, motorists could now face a delay of up to one and a half hours as emergency resurfacing takes place.
