



Motorists could face hours-long delays and road closures on a major motorway in Yorkshire following a "serious collision".
The M1 is closed in both directions between J36 (Hoyland) and J37 (Barnsley), with South Yorkshire Police and other emergency services in attendance.
National Highways Traffic Officers are on the scene and assisting with traffic management as drivers wait in long delays.
The traffic organisation warned that strategic diversion routes are in operation, with traffic conditions not expected to return to normal until around 1pm.

Traffic maps show miles of non-moving traffic following the closure approaching Junction 38, with current delays of 20 minutes.
National Highways advised drivers to allow extra time for their journey if the closure impacts their route.
They suggested that drivers could even re-route or delay their journey by planning ahead and checking traffic maps.
