NextImg:Labour faces huge upset as Keir Starmer 'could lose seat' to Jeremy Corbyn's new party

Keir Starmer could be on track to lose his seat alongside two key ministers as exiled former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's new left party establishes itself in the UK.

A senior Labour source has told the New Statesman that it is "not inconceivable" that Starmer, Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Lord High Chancellor Shabana Mahmood "could all lose their seats".

It comes as more than 500,000 people have signed up to the party, which has yet to be named.

Each of the Labour MPs came under pressure at the last general election from candidates focused on the Gaza conflict, however, the ministers have another four years to determine the damage Corbyn's party has had on their chances.

Corbyn wrote in The Guardian on Tuesday that the "political system is broken".

"Over the past 40 years in parliament, I have witnessed first-hand the reasons why. Politics should be about empowerment. Instead, people are shut out of the decisions that affect their daily lives," the ex-Labour leader said.

"For too long, people have been denied a real political choice."

Corbyn declared: "Not any more."

He added that after announcing "yourparty.uk" more than 500,000 people had signed up "to help build a real alternative to poverty, inequality and war".

Corbyn wrote that people were looking to end "this Government's complicity in genocide and brings about justice for the Palestinian people".

The Transport Secretary has issued a warning that the UK expects "Hamas to act in the same way as we expect Israel to act".

Heidi Alexander told the BBC that "Hamas need to release the hostages, they need to disarm, and they also need to accept that they will have no future role in the governance of Gaza".

"They are a vile terrorist organisation that has perpetrated heinous crimes and awful atrocities on the Israeli people," she added.

She was asked directly if the release of hostages is a condition on recognition, adding: "We will be making an assessment in September and we expect Hamas to act in the same way as we expect Israel to act."

"We’re giving Israel eight weeks to act," Alexander said.

"If they want to be sat at the table to shape that enduring peace in the region, they must act."
