



Nine Just Stop Oil protesters have been arrested at London's Heathrow Airport after attempting to cause disruption to the runway.
In footage shared on social media, the protest group arrived at the airport on bicycles, before attempting to gain access through fencing towards the busy runways.
The group's latest demonstration is an attempt to stop "all flights across Europe", with protesters also targeting airports in Zurich and Geneva.
In a statement from the Met Police, they said: "Nine Just Stop Oil activists have been arrested this morning for conspiring to disrupt Heathrow Airport.

"Thanks to the work of officers involved, those arrested have been taken into custody, and the Met has prevented significant disruption to the airport and travelling public."
In a post on the Just Stop Oil website, the group have called on the UK government to end fossil fuels by 2030.
Their statement reads: "It's time for a plan to stop burning oil, gas and coal. Failure to do so is a death sentence for millions of people already facing heat stress and drought in the global south.
"An act of war on island states like Fiji, Tonga, Tuvalu and Antigua that have backed calls for a treaty to end fossil fuels — but face being wiped off the map by rising seas.
