NextImg:'It's fun': 105-year-old athlete shares secrets to longevity after winning 4 gold medals

At 105 years old, Thai athlete Sawang Janpram has achieved remarkable success at the World Masters Games in Taiwan, winning four gold medals in discus, javelin, shot put and the 100-metre sprint. He completed the 100m in 38.55 seconds.

Media reports noted that Janpram was in a league of his own at the event, being the oldest competitor and the only person in his age group.

His training partner is his 73-year-old daughter, Siripan, who also competes with the Thai Veteran Athletics Association.

Janpram began competing at age 97 after being inspired by watching his daughter compete at athletics events.

"He started to like the atmosphere because he could make new friends and see new people," says Siripan.

Janpram's day typically begins at 5.30am with a breakfast of two boiled eggs, protein, vegetables and fruit.

By 6am or 7am, he heads to the beach or local stadium near his home in Rayong province for training sessions with Siripan.

His routine includes walking between 1km and 2km before completing a quick 100m run once or twice. He then practises one of his other disciplines: javelin, discus, or shot put.

"If I notice that he looks a bit tired, we just do walking, no jogging, or any other form of practice," says Siripan.

She explains that going outside and being active has benefits beyond physical fitness, noting that her father "looks refreshed when he sees other people".

Janpram attributes his longevity and success to "regular exercise, healthy food, staying in a good mood, always being calm, breathing clean air and keeping up good hygiene".

He rarely eats pork, preferring vegetables and fish, along with traditional Thai dishes including nam prik pao, gaeng liang and gaeng som.

"If you go out to exercise with friends, you will get a chance to know them more, and it's fun," he advised others wanting to get fit.

Janpram encourages everyone to "start exercising so they will be strong and not get sick".

After 21 games and 78 medals, both father and daughter plan to take a few days' rest before resuming training next week.

They are already preparing to qualify for the 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championships in India this November.
