Chagossian Britons Karen Merle and Steeve Mandarin have branded Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's Chagos deal a "betrayal", as they told GB News locals could be "homeless" as a result of the Labour leader's controversial handover.

Announcing the deal last week, the Prime Minister defended the agreement as a key contribution to Britain's security ties with the US, insisting there was "no alternative".

Chagossians are now fleeing their homeland for Britain in significant numbers, placing major financial burden on local authorities.

Hillingdon Council, which covers Heathrow Airport, is projecting costs of £1.2million annually to support the arrivals.

Speaking to GB News, Karen Merle and Steeve Mandarin told host Martin Daubney that they fled Mauritius due to feeling "unsafe", but are now deemed homeless in Britain.

Merle stated: "We are fleeing Mauritus because of the criminal code, and we have so many discriminations there. We don't have the opportunity to have a a good job, and we don't have the change to have a good life.

"Black people are not safe in Mauritius. We are not safe in Mauritius."

Hitting out at the Chagos deal agreed by the Prime Minister, Mandarin claimed that the agreement is a "betrayal" to the British people.

He said: "It's a betrayal to the British people, the taxpayers and to the Chagossians, because this deal doesn't benefit anyone.

"It doesn't benefit the British people, it doesn't benefit the country, the only thing that this deal is serving is Mauritius."

Prime Minister Sir Keir StarmerStarmer signed the deal to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius last weekPA

Warning of the growing closeness in relations between Mauritius and China, Mandarin cautioned: "Today we found out that the Chinese embassy in Mauritius just congratulated Mauritius on on securing that deal, and they are looking forward to working on the trade agreement.

"It is a strategic place where it is, right in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and basically we feel like this Government doesn't listen to us at all."

Outlining their support for Reform UK, Merle and Mandarin said that Nigel Farage's party is "doing a great job" in backing the Chagossians, and are helping to "bring the country together".

Mandarin told GB News: "I believe that Reform is doing a great job, and are trying to bring the country together and helping those who basically doesn't have a voice.

"Because our voice and our human rights was taken from us."

Merle added: "I know that he supports us and he is with us, he is on our side."

Hitting out at the deal in today's press conference, Farage blasted the Prime Minister for signing the "worst deal".

He claimed: "There was absolutely zero necessity to give away the sovereignty of the Chagos Islands."
