A man has broken into Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida by scaling the property's walls in an attempt to propose marriage to the President's teenage granddaughter.

Anthony Thomas Reyes, 23, was discovered by Secret Service agents shortly after midnight last night after climbing over the towering wall surrounding the exclusive resort.

The intruder told police he had broken into the property specifically to find 18-year-old Kai Trump and ask for her hand in marriage.

Palm Beach Police arrested Reyes and charged him with trespassing following the security breach.

Reyes, from Texas, is being held at Palm Beach County Jail on a $50,000 (£36,928) bond after pleading not guilty to the charges.

The 23-year-old told officers he wanted to "spread the gospel" alongside his marriage proposal plans, stating he was also looking for Trump to discuss religious matters.

This marked Reyes's second attempt to access the heavily guarded property.

He had previously received a stern warning for trespassing on December 31, 2024, when the President was present at the estate.

During Tuesday's incident, Trump was in Washington DC while his granddaughter was holidaying in the Bahamas with family and friends.

Kai Trump, who celebrated her 18th birthday last month, has become a well-known figure in the US after appearing frequently during her grandfather's campaign trail.

The teenager, daughter of Donald Trump Jr, attends school in North Palm Beach and has committed to the University of Miami in the autumn.

She has cultivated a substantial social media following by sharing behind-the-scenes content featuring her relationship with the President.

In a recent vlog, Trump praised his granddaughter's golfing abilities, saying: "I just wanna say that I play a lot of golf with Kai and she's a fantastic golfer.

"She's a scratch player, which is amazing. I think some day in the not-too-distant future she's gonna be much better than scratch."

The Potus, who owns 18 golf courses globally, joked about their competitive matches: "She's doing really well, and she wins a lot of matches.

"Some day she'll be able to beat her grandfather, but I'm not sure when that'll be... it might be a long time!"
