A large fire has broken out in Manchester city centre as pictures show black smoke billowing from a building.

Emergency services were called to Peary Street in Angel Meadow shortly after 1pm to reports of a commercial building on fire.

Footage shows crews tackling the blaze as plumes of smoke flood from a premises.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:“At around 1.10pm on Sunday 28 January, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a commercial building on Peary Street, Manchester.

"Three fire engines from Blackley, Philips Park and Salford stations are at the scene. Firefighters are using breathing apparatus and hose reels to tackle the fire."

The incident remains ongoing.
