Donald Trump has launched an extraordinary accusation against his predecessor Barack Obama, making unfounded allegations of "treason" as he demanded that the Department of Justice (DoJ) launches a criminal probe.
The American President made these explosive claims whilst hosting Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr for discussions on Indo-Pacific security cooperation and economic partnerships.
Trump declared that Obama had orchestrated what he described as a "coup attempt," telling journalists at the press conference that the former President was "guilty of treason".
The 47th President asserted that recently declassified documents would substantiate his claims against Obama, whom he accused of leading efforts to undermine American democracy.

The US President alleged that Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, had paid $12million to Christopher Steele for what he characterised as a fraudulent report.
He also claimed the Steele dossier contained "fabricated information" that media outlets "refused to publish before the election."
"We caught Hillary Clinton. We caught Barack Hussein Obama. They're the ones," Trump declared during the press conference.
He claimed to possess extensive documentation supporting his allegations, stating that intelligence director Tulsi Gabbard had informed him thousands of additional documents would be forthcoming.
Trump extended his allegations to encompass the 2020 presidential election, which he characterised as "rigged" and connected to the alleged Obama-led conspiracy.
The US President said: “That Obama was [a] seditionist. That Obama led, was trying to lead, a coup. And it was with Hillary Clinton, with all these other people.
"But Obama headed it up. And you know, I get a kick when I hear everyone talking about people I’ve never even heard of. ‘Oh, it was this one or that one.’
"No, no it was Obama. He led it. And it says so right there in the papers. We’ve got everything.
“This is the biggest scandal in the history of our country. And it even goes on to the auto pen, because it all relates to the same thing. It all started with the same sick minds."
He added: "Look, he’s guilty. It’s not a question. He’s guilty. This was treason.

"This was every word you can think of. They tried to steal the election. They tried to obfuscate the election.
"They did things that nobody’s ever even imagined, even in other countries.”
He urged "immediate action" from the Department of Justice, suggesting that the evidence warranted comprehensive criminal investigations into Obama and his associates.
Trump also referenced the January 6 committee, alleging they had destroyed evidence after conducting their investigation because the materials would have implicated them in wrongdoing.
There is no evidence to substantiate Trump's claims against Obama.
