NextImg:George Groves thinks Mike Tyson might try 'wrestling' Jake Paul in controversial boxing clash

George Groves believes Mike Tyson may consider wrestling Jake Paul in their upcoming boxing fight on Friday evening.

The bout, which is being sanctioned as a professional clash despite the controversy surrounding the contest, will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Texas.

It will be Tyson's first fight since his exhibition draw with Roy Jones Jr four years ago, while Paul will be returning to the ring following his victory over Mike Perry back in July.

Groves, speaking to Bestoffshoresportsbooks, has been asked whether Tyson may consider 'wrestling' Paul to 'save face' should he start to lose the clash.

And that's something the Briton believes is possible, saying: "Over the top ropes, yeah, possibly…who knows?

"If you look back at Tyson's fights, it was always just, quick start, pedal to the metal, boom.

"He was never in it for a points win, was he? So why would he change now?

"He must know that he's dangerous early and probably isn’t backing himself down the stretch. Two minute rounds will suit him because he's getting a minute's rest quicker than usual.

"14 ounce gloves, you can get some spiteful 14s. We'll see which ones they show up with.”

Tyson has been regularly updating fans on his progress as he prepares for his return to action.

He has shared numerous clips of himself hitting the pads on social media, leaving fans stunned by his remarkable power in the process.

Tyson, in a recent interview, said he was spending six hours in the gym every day as he looks to summon the magic of old.

Carl Froch says 'it's in the contract that Jake Paul can't lose' ahead of Mike Tyson boxing fight

Yet Groves isn't sure whether the 58-year-old has been entirely truthful.

He added: “Who knows what sort of training Tyson's doing. Six hours a day, whatever, is that beneficial to him or not? Is that the truth or not?

"It takes a bit longer to recover the older you get. If he's in the gym grafting for six hours a day, it's not really giving him a lot of time to recover.

"That might just be a little nugget for us to sort of digest.”

Carl Froch, meanwhile, has also provided his verdict.

The former boxer believes it's staggering that the fight is being sanctioned as a pro one - rather than an exhibition.

He does admit, however, that he'd love to see Tyson knock Paul out and deal a catastrophic blow to the 27-year-old's boxing career.

"I don't know how it can be sanctioned as a professional contest, because it’s two minute rounds," he said.

"It's not women's boxing, it's men's boxing. From what I know from Mike Tyson and Jake Paul both have a pair of testicles each. So that makes it a man's bout, which should be three minutes.

"And if it's going to be sanctioned as a professional fight, it should be three minute rounds.”

He added: “Wouldn't it be f***ing great though, if Mike Tyson got in there and landed a shot. That's what people surely want. They want to see Jake Paul get ironed out by an old Mike Tyson.

"I don't want to contradict myself, because I've said before I disagree with it, which I still do. But actually, on reflection, thinking about it, it's just a bit of entertainment, isn't it?”
