Martyn Blake, the police marksman who shot and killed Chris Kaba, has been cleared of murder.
Blake, 40, faced trial at the Old Bailey, after the 24-year-old was shot through the front windscreen of an Audi Q8 in Streatham, south-east London, on September 5, 2022.
The vehicle had been involved in a shooting the night before and was blocked in by police at Kirkstall Gardens after an officer spotted its registration.
Kaba attempted to ram his way out by reversing and accelerating forward, prompting Blake to fire, believing a fellow officer's life was in imminent danger, the court was told.
Two other officers testified that they were also moments away from firing, with one, known as DS87, stating he would have taken the shot had Blake not acted, and another officer, identified as E156, saying he was "fractions of a second" from shooting as well.
