NextImg:Finally GOOD news for the victims of the Post Office scandal, says Kelvin MacKenzie

Great news that the hundreds wrongfully convicted in the Horizon IT scandal are to have their convictions quashed.

There will also be a handout of £75,000 to some of the postmasters, but in truth it will only be a downpayment on the huge compensation both the Post Office and Fujitsu will have to cough up to literally 4,000 who lost their freedoms, livelihoods and even their lives in the greatest miscarriage of all time.

Somebody who will be feeling uneasy right now is Andrew Jenkins, an early architect of the Horizon software.

It was his evidence- along with a female colleague - that saw many of the postmasters convicted. After all he worked for Fujitsu and if he said there was nothing wrong with the tech why, if you were a jury, why wouldn’t you believe it.

The Telegraph went to his home in Berkshire and asked him for a comment but he declined.

It has now come clear that back in 2021 police questioned Mr Jenkins and his colleague under caution in relation to perjury.

I am puzzled as to why there has been no action since by the officers.

What has emerged that Mr Jenkins is seeking immunity from being charged on the basis of testimony he was required to give to a public inquiry into the scandal later this year.

Apparently he has twice sought the immunity from the judge who will be heading the inquiry. It looks as though twice it has been refused.

I would be amazed if Mr Jenkins does give evidence.
