Only 12 per cent of Americans found American Eagle's ad featuring actress Sydney Sweeney offensive, a new poll has revealed.
Despite fury bubbling away on social media after the ad was released last month, a YouGov survey revealed that just 7 per cent of men and 17 per cent of women in America took offence to it.
The Economist/YouGov poll surveyed 1,635 adults in the US from August 9 to 11.

The survey invited participants to give their view on the controversial American Eagle ad, with options including "clever," "offensive," "neither," and "unsure".
In total, 39 per cent of respondents said they found the ad, which featured the tagline “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans", clever, while a mere 12 per cent found it offensive.
Men were more likely to find the ad clever compared to their female counterparts, while women were more prone to find it offensive.
The survey also found a significant partisan split on views relating to the controversial commercial.

The survey also highlighted a generational rift in opinion - Sweeney's ad performed better with younger respondents than older.
Some 45 per cent of those aged between 18 and 29 found the ad clever, with just 12 percent saying they found it offensive.
On the other hand, 34 per cent of respondents aged 65 and above said it was clever with 13 per cent taking offence.
American Eagle shares soared after the jeans ad was released, despite furious backlash, with the clothing brand's market cap exceeding $2billion (£1.5billion).
Some accused the ad featuring the Euphoria star of being a "racial dog-whistle" and "modern-day Nazi propaganda".
However, others came to the actress's defence, proclaiming it to represent the death of "woke advertising".
Following the reactions to the viral marketing campaign, American Eagle issued a statement on social media.

“We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way.
"Great jeans look good on everyone," the statement concluded.
Donald Trump also weighed in on the discourse, describing it as the "HOTTEST ad out there" on Truth Social.
