A huge St George’s Cross has been described as “amazing” by passers by as it was unveiled in Nottingham today.
The 60ft long flag was installed on the front of the city’s council house in the annual tradition celebrating England’s patron saint.
It’s believed to be the biggest St George’s Cross on display in the country and likely the world.

“I think it’s amazing”, said Kay Porter, 57, from Wigan. “I feel proud for our country. It’s absolutely fantastic, we need more of it.”
“It’s our heritage. We’re proud of our heritage, proud to be British. It should be bigger than what it is”, she added.
“I think it looks pretty good. Nice to support the local saint so to speak”, said Tony Hardwick, 76, from Aslockton.
Visitors from overseas also enjoyed seeing the national flag on display.

Nigel Daykin, 55, from St. Albert near Edmonton in Canada, said: “I think it’s really good to see it up there. It’s good to see a celebration of England and the country.”
He added: “I think we should celebrate because he is the figure head of the country in the same way it’s St. Andrew for Scotland and St. David for Wales, why shouldn’t we have St. George for England?”
However, some passing through Nottingham were indifferent to the flag, with one young man stating: “It’s just a flag, I didn’t even realise it was there if I’m honest.”
The flag is displayed every year in the East Midlands city for St. George’s Day which is celebrated on April 23, but is also sometimes raised during sporting events such as the football World Cup.
Councillor David Mellen, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “The St George flag is an iconic sight to behold when in place on the front of the Council House.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone celebrating next week a very happy St George’s Day.”
The flag was installed by sponsors SCAPE and signage company John E Wright and Co Ltd.
