NextImg:EDF to offer customers free electricity for households next month - are you eligible?

October marks the comeback of EDF's Sunday Saver Challenge, an initiative that provides households with complimentary electricity on Sundays as a reward for reducing consumption during weekday evening peaks.

The programme incentivises participants to shift their energy use away from the 4pm to 7pm weekday slots.

Those who successfully adjust their consumption patterns can receive between four and sixteen hours of cost-free power each Sunday.

EDF stands alone among energy providers in extending this benefit across four consecutive Sundays. The scheme represents a practical response to household budgets as energy costs remain a concern for many families across Britain.

Regional data reveals the North East as the standout performer, with 89.39 per cent of participating households securing the maximum benefit.

The East and West Midlands achieved 88.76 per cent, while Scotland recorded 88.45 per cent success rates.

London's participants demonstrated slightly lower flexibility, though 86.83 per cent of the capital's customers still managed to earn complimentary electricity hours.

The figures suggest northern regions have adapted more readily to shifting their consumption patterns.

"It's fantastic to see how many customers are earning up to 16 hours of free electricity, especially in regions like the North East of England and Scotland," said Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF.

Financial benefits have proven substantial, with more than £2.73million returned to participants' accounts since the programme launched in September last year.

Some 88 per cent of those taking part have secured a minimum of four hours of complimentary electricity.

The timing appears particularly relevant as households face a 2% increase in average annual energy bills from October 1 under the new price cap.

"With the new price cap level coming into effect seeing the average annual energy bill rising by two per cent from October 1, we're continuing to provide great value through our Sunday Saver challenge," Mr Hughes explained.

Households interested in participating must register by 11:59pm on October 12, with the challenge period commencing on October 13.

Participants can benefit from complimentary electricity on 19th and 26th October, followed by November 2 and November 9.

"We're excited to give even more customers the chance to save money and enjoy doing the things they love on a Sunday this October," Mr Hughes added.

Essential requirements include a functioning smart meter for electricity supply and enrolment in half-hourly meter readings.
