An easyJet captain has been suspended following reports of intoxicated and nude behaviour at a Cape Verde resort.

The airline grounded the pilot after he was allegedly observed without clothing whilst heavily intoxicated at the Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa.

The incident occurred during the early hours after what witnesses described as an extended drinking session.

An easyJet captain has been suspended following reports of intoxicated and nude behaviour at a Cape Verde resort

The captain had been scheduled to operate a return flight to Gatwick Airport approximately 36 hours after the reported incident.

According to reports, the pilot arrived at the resort on August 4 and began drinking at a bar, continuing until the early morning.

At approximately 2.30am, witnesses observed him removing all his clothing and entering the hotel's reception area completely nude.

The captain is then believed to have proceeded through various areas of the luxury resort, including the gymnasium and spa facilities.

Sources described him as being in a "paralytic" state while moving through the hotel premises.

A source told The Sun: "This was breathtakingly unprofessional behaviour from the pilot. It was the height of stupidity. His career with EasyJet is doomed."

Hotel guests who recognised the captain raised immediate concerns with management.

One easyJet source said: "Anyone who saw the pilot cavorting naked in the early hours on the day before a flight would not dream of getting on a plane with him at the controls."

An easyJet spokesperson confirmed the pilot's immediate suspension, saying: "As soon as we were made aware, the pilot was immediately stood down from duty, in line with our procedures, pending an investigation.

"The safety of our passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority."

Sources within the company indicated disbelief at the reported behaviour, with one saying: "The pilot did not have a stitch on and reeked of alcohol.

"He was so drunk that you wouldn't have put him in charge of a toy aeroplane, never mind the real thing with hundreds of passengers."
