NextImg:Driver shares genius way she outwitted crooks to nab back her own stolen motor: ‘It was exciting!’

Mia Forbes Pirie has described the "exciting" sensation of recovering her stolen Jaguar E-Pace, whilst defending police officers who she says face challenging circumstances.

Speaking to GB News, the award-winning mediator said: "I think it's a tiny bit harsh to blame the police, my husband's recollection is, when we called 999 they said they might send a patrol car. We were left a bit uncertain as to how long this would take."

She added: "It was an exciting moment."

Forbes Pirie praised officers' response, saying: "The police have been very nice. They told us to call 101 if we found the car so we did."

The couple discovered their Jaguar was missing from its parking spot near their Brook Green home last Wednesday morning. The vehicle, worth approximately £46,000, had been fitted with an AirTag locator which pinged at a location in Chiswick at 10.30am.

After calling 999, they were informed that officers could not provide immediate assistance or confirm when they would be able to investigate.

Forbes Pirie told GB News: "In that confusion I thought, 'it's a nine-minute drive, it's four miles away. They might have just thrown the Airtags away but we might find it'."

The couple drove to Chiswick in Forbes Pirie's Polo and located the vehicle on a quiet back street.

HANDOUT

The interior had been damaged, with carpets torn up by thieves attempting to access the wiring. The couple hired a lorry to transport the vehicle home.

In a LinkedIn post, Forbes Pirie admitted it was "kind of fun stealing back our own car" but questioned "why we should have had to do that".

She wrote: "If there are no consequences, what is the incentive for people not to do more of this?"

Speaking to The Times, she emphasised: "The police are under-resourced and it's a shame."

Forbes Pirie told GB News: "They called us back once we had everything repaired and said they would like to send someone round to find evidence. It will take a while but I think it's really tough for them."

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they spoke to the victim "who shared his intention to recover the vehicle himself" and reminded him to contact police if assistance was needed at the vehicle's location.

A Met spokesperson said: "This investigation is ongoing and police are working with the victim. No arrests have been made at this stage."

Official figures reveal the scale of vehicle crime in the capital, with 33,530 offences of theft or unauthorised taking of motor vehicles recorded in London in 2024.

This represents a 1.6 per cent increase on the previous year, with only 326 positive outcomes including charges or cautions - a success rate below one per cent.
