President Trump’s former National Security Adviser John Bolton has shed light on what his former boss will be thinking after a devastating overnight attack on Iran by Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hailed a “decisive moment” in the country’s history after a list of its targets were struck down in the early hours.

It remains to be seen how Israel’s strongest allies America will respond, but Trump has already praised the deadly act.

Speaking on GB News, Bolton said the US President may sense an opportunity to capitalise on a moment of Iranian weakness.

“Trump is always the winner, he never loses”, he said.

“He may not know where the winner is going to be, so he protects himself. I think the US should be participating in these attacks.

“Iran is not Israel’s problem, it’s the world’s problem. Nuclear proliferation is a serious threat to all of us.

“The United States should step up its supply to Israel and we should do more in terms of force deployments to protect our own forces in the region.

“I think we can do more to protect Israel and the Gulf Arab countries, Jordan and others, against a possible Iranian response.

“This is a moment where the world can be in the process of being a much safer place as Iran’s efforts to get nuclear weapons are set back substantially.”

Bolton, who parted ways with Trump in acrimonious fashion in 2019 with a disagreement on how his departure came about, said the West may sense a “real chance” for peace in the region.

“I don’t think there’s any deal Iran would accept that’s acceptable to the United States”, he said.

“Iran wants to enrich domestically because it wants a nuclear weapons problem and it won’t give that up.

“I really think after the Israeli attacks last night and what might happen in the coming days or weeks here really should lead us to think about stage two.

“If the nuclear weapons program is substantially damaged, does this bring about the opportunity for the overthrow of the Ayatollahs?

“It’s only when this regime is gone there’s any chance for peace and security in the Middle East.”

Multiple Middle Eastern nations have opened their airspace to Israeli Defence Forces aircraft, with Saudi Arabia and Jordan actively intercepting Iranian drones.

The Jordanian Royal Air Force has shot down several drones, citing violations of sovereign airspace and potential threats to populated areas.

Israel declared a "special emergency situation" in anticipation of further Iranian counterstrikes, as the first wave of drones began crossing into multiple countries' airspace early Friday morning local time.

Israeli jets are currently operating in Saudi Arabian airspace, intercepting Shaheed drones, whilst Syrian airspace has also seen IDF forces downing Iranian drones, according to security sources.

Benjamin Netanyahu stated overnight that Israeli intelligence assessments indicate Iran possesses sufficient enriched uranium to construct nine atomic bombs, with the capability to weaponise this material "within months, a year or so."

The Israeli prime minister characterised this nuclear capacity as "unacceptable," positioning Israel's actions as defending the free world against an unstable regime with "an avowed aim to obliterate Israel and wipe it off the map."

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said two days ago that Americans had "no doubt that Iran was in the process of building bombs."

The Trump administration had informed Israeli officials that the United States would not provide military support for potential attacks on Iran, according to two US officials speaking on condition of anonymity.

Washington moved to reduce its regional presence on Wednesday as Tehran threatened counterstrikes targeting both Israel and US forces and facilities across the Middle East.

Israeli officials have justified the strikes as necessary to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, despite Tehran's consistent denials that its nuclear programme serves military purposes.

The attacks follow stalled negotiations between the US and Iran aimed at preventing nuclear weapons development.
