The United States is on track to deport 600,000 illegal migrants in Donald Trump's first year back in office as part of his nationwide migrant crackdown.

In addition to the mass deportations, Ice and other federal agencies have arrested more than 457,000 illegal migrants so far in 2025.

Officials have promised it is "just the beginning" as they continue to clamp down on illegal migration.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin praised the President and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, saying they "jumpstarted an agency that was vilified and barred from doing its job for the last four years".

She added that federal agents have made "historic progress to carryout President Trump's promise of arresting and deporting illegal aliens who have invaded our country", despite orders from federal judges which have blocked some enforcement actions.

According to The New York Post, the DHS have deported more than 493,000 illegal aliens in 2025, and an additional 1.6 million have voluntarily "self-deported".

Ms McLaughlin said: "Illegal aliens are hearing our message to leave now or face the consequence.

"Migrants are now even turning back before they reach our borders."

Illegal "encounters" at the US-Mexico border have hit the lowest rate in more than 50 years, according to federal data obtained by CBS News.

Throughout the President's first eight months back in office, there have been fewer than 9,000 illegal crossings recorded each month.

Ice declared last month that "the era of open borders is over" while announcing it has not released a single illegal border crosser into America for four straight months.

Though Mr Trump is on track to deport 600,000 illegal migrants this year, fewer than half that number - 271,000 - were removed from the US during Joe Biden's final year in office.

In 2023, Ice statistics show figures were even lower with only 142,000 illegal migrants being deported.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told GB News: "President Trump has overwhelmingly delivered on his promise to secure our southern border and is now carrying out the largest mass deportation operation of criminal illegal aliens in history.

"As a result, Americans are safer - unvetted criminal illegal aliens and dangerous drugs are no longer pouring over our border unchecked.

"And for all the Democrats who claimed it was impossible to secure the border or that they needed new policy, turns out all we needed was a new President."

Donald Trump and Sir Keir Starmer

The President has urged the Prime Minister to take a tougher stance on stopping illegal migration

During his state visit to the UK, Mr Trump urged Sir Keir Starmer to follow his lead and take a tougher stance on illegal migration.

The President encouraged the Prime Minister to "deploy the military" in order to cut down on the number of people crossing the Channel in small boats.

Mr Trump said: "You have people coming in and I told the Prime Minister I would stop it.

"And it doesn't matter if you call out the military, it doesn't matter what means you use.

"But it destroys countries from within and we're not actually removing the people that came into the country."
