A 32-year-old woman who was stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival last week has died, the Metropolitan Police have said.

Cher Maximen was stabbed on Golborne Road shortly before 6.00pm, after police believe she was caught up in the middle of a fight between two groups of men.

Scotland Yard provided medical attention until paramedics arrived at the scene who took her to hospital.

Maximen, who had attended the Carnival on Sunday with her daughter, sadly died in hospital on Saturday morning.

Alex Gammampila of the Met’s Homicide Command, who leads the investigation, said: “My thoughts are with Cher’s loved ones as they come to terms with this terrible loss.

“They are being supported by specialist officers and we will make sure that support continues.

“Cher was at Carnival with her young child. We have been in close contact with our local authority partners and Cher's family since soon after this incident to make sure the child is safe and looked after.”

Commander Charmain Brenyah, the Met’s spokesperson for Carnival, added: “The news of Cher’s tragic death is devastating for her family, the wider community and all those involved in delivering the Notting Hill Carnival.

"Carnival is about bringing people together in a positive celebration. That it has ended with the tragic loss of life, among other incidents of serious violence, will sadden everyone involved."

Shakiel Thibou, 20, was arrested on Tuesday morning after the stabbing. He has been charged with attempted murder, violent disorder, and possession of an offensive weapon.

The 20-year-old appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on September 25

In a separate incident, Swedish national Mussie Imnetu, who was found unconscious on Monday evening near Notting Hill, has also died from his injuries, police confirmed.
