A convicted killer was able to delay his sentencing after he refused to get out of bed.

Last month, Joshua Eno, 25, was found guilty of murdering 21-year-old Rico Andrews in Battersea, London.

The murderer was due to appear at the Old Bailey for sentencing on Monday, but a judge delayed the proceedings after Eno refused to emerge from his prison cell at the notorious HMP Belmarsh.

Judge Philip Katz KC was left with no choice but to adjourn his sentencing until Thursday.

Staff at the Category A Belmarsh Prison have warned Eno that sentencing will proceed without him.

Judge Katz said: “It’s ridiculous when we are manipulated by someone refusing to get out of bed. It is highly unsatisfactory.”

in October 2023, Eno threatened to stab security staff at BMW Battersea before he stole a motorbike worth £20,000 from the dealership.

However, two men took the bike from the 25-year-old just hours later, with Eno believing Mr Andrews was behind it.

Eno confronted Mr Andrews outside his home in Battersea after getting a lift from 34-year-old Tyrone Atwood.

He proceeded to shot his victim in the chest from point-blank range before fleeing the scene on the back of Atwood's moped, while shouting "that's karma".

The motorbike and gun used to kill Mr Andrews were never found, but two knives were recovered from the scene of the crime.

After being identified through CCTV, Eno was arrested as he was attending a probation appointment.

Eno was arrested wearing the same pair of trainers he wore when he carried out the murder, with officers also discovering a large knife in his possession.

The 25-year-old denied murdering Mr Andrews, claiming that the gun went off in his victim's hand - and that losing a stolen motorbike was an “occupational hazard” of being a thief.

On September 23, he was unanimously convicted by a jury at the Old Bailey.

His accomplice Attwood was convicted of robbing the BMW motorbike, but was cleared of murder.

Mr Andrews's mother paid tribute to her son after Eno was convicted, saying: “My son Rico was truly an amazing human.

“He literally had the best sense of humour, quick wit and just made everything funnier.

"Rico was the most laid-back dude who never took anything seriously.

“Rico should still be here. His life should not have been taken at 21 over a stolen bike.”
