Political commentator Candace Owens has explained why she wants her country to adopt an “America First” approach to international affairs.
She joined Steven Edginton on GBN America to assess the country’s support for other nations, and Owens says she embraces Isolationism.
“America First means we are prioritising the concerns of America above every other country in the entire world”, she said.
“I say this whether it’s about Ukraine or Israel, the American people are so tired of being sold a sappy narrative and being told, ‘hey, I know that you can’t feed your kids, I know you can’t afford to put petrol in your car, but you should instead think about what’s happening overseas’.

“We’re tired of that. We don’t care. It’s not our drama and it shouldn’t be . It should be such a natural thing to state that you take care of your own house before you offer charity to your neighbours.
“It makes no sense for your children to be starving and then for you to go next door and offer your neighbour food.”

A reelection of Donald Trump could see America retreat into a state of isolationism given previous instances where he has championed the policy.
The former president will be vying for a return to the White House with the election set to take place in November against likely Democrat candidate and the incumbent Joe Biden.
The America First think tank, of which Owens is associated, has close ties to Trump’s team and its proposals could come under consideration.
But Trump has hinted at delving into international matters with the 78-year-old often commenting on matters like the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Owens says Americans have been “brainwashed” to believe delving into foreign affairs is the way forward.
“This whole idea of international liberalism, it’s not just about your problem, it’s about solving the world’s problems”, she said.
“It’s like making sure there’s a trans flag waving in Pakistan. Why is this my business?
“They’re constantly trying to pollute you to make you think that it’s your business. I want to be concerned with just America’s problems.
“As soon as they’re solved, I’m happy to pick our heads up and say, ‘you know what? There are our friends over there in the UK, let’s see how we can help them’, but America first.”
