NextImg:Britons torn over 'intriguing' M&S spread as supermarket announces 'first-ever' sweet Marmite

Marks & Spencer has stirred up quite the storm with its latest creation: Caramel Sauce and Marmite.

The £3 bottle blends the famously divisive yeast spread with sweet caramel, creating what the retailer calls its "first-ever sweet Marmite sensation".

In an announcement to shoppers, M&S said: "Whether you love it or hate it, you have to try it. Trust us. It works."

Challenging foodies to drizzle the sweet-savoury mixture over toast, croissants, and waffles, the supermarket pledges to elevate brunch to the "next level".

The unusual combination has already sent social media into overdrive, with a post by food blog Newfoodsuk amassing thousands of reactions.

Notably, Britons have been torn between fascination and disgust.

Comments immediately poured in from both sides of the Marmite divide, creating a heated debate about whether this sweet twist on the beloved spread has gone too far.

Some commenters expressed complete hatred. "I love Marmite, but this is repulsive," wrote one disgruntled social media user, while another simply stated they were "horrified".

Others questioned the very existence of such a product, with one baffled user asking: "What exactly is the use case for this?"

The timing has left some scratching their heads. One confused commenter wrote: "Checks calendar - it isn't April!?!" suggesting the product sounds more like an April Fool's prank than a genuine September launch.

Another frustrated fan pleaded: "We seriously need to stop adding Marmite to everything now."

But not everyone was put off by the unusual pairing. "This sounds delicious," wrote one enthusiastic Marmite fan, while another admitted: "I want to try it, but it shouldn't exist."

Some drew comparisons to salted caramel, suggesting the combination might actually be a hit.

One fan shared their positive experience with similar flavour combinations: "Honestly, one of the best things I've tried is fudge with Marmite on it. So this is gonna be a big old 'hell yeah' from me."

Another agreed, declaring that the fudge and Marmite pairing is "flipping lush".

Several adventurous souls announced plans to rush to M&S, with one declaring: "I bet it's epic."

"Whoa, I'm intrigued," one foodie commented, while another revealed they "can't wait to try it".

The jury is out on whether the combination will be heavenly or hideous. Britons can find out for themselves when 'it's Caramel sauce & Marmite' drops tomorrow.

The brand-new spread isn't M&S' only nod to the divisive flavour. As of September 10, the supermarket will stock Pecan & Salted Caramel Blondies with a touch of the yeast spread.

Priced at £5 for a 185g pack, this new addition is described as a "nutty pecan tiffin infused with a hint of Marmite, then layered with fudgy white chocolate blondie and finished with a swirl of salted caramel sauce".
