A 78-year-old British tourist has been found dead in a hotel swimming pool in Crete.
Greek police arrested three people on suspicion of manslaughter by negligence, including a 21-year-old lifeguard.
The lifeguard was supposed to be on duty at the time of the tragic incident.
Tragedy struck the Hersonissos hotel yesterday after the British pensioner was taking a dip yesterday afternoon.
The 78-year-old, who has not been named, reportedly fell ill soon after.
She was pulled out of the water after given first aid before emergency services rushed to the scene.
Following the best efforts from the local medical team, the woman was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Two hotel bosses, aged 51 and 41, were arrested alongside the 21-year-old lifeguard on suspicion of manslaughter by negligence.
All three suspects have since been released on bail.
The death comes just weeks after another British pensioner was found dead on his sun longer at a nearby beach.
The 74-year-old was found unconscious by fellow beach-goers at midday on July 20.
Hellenic National Center of Emergency Care rushed to Crete's Stalis Beach shortly after the pensioner was found.
Following the incident, a Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities."
