NextImg:British car owners searching for new homes handed lifeline with major Vauxhall update

A pioneering collaboration between Vauxhall and property platform Zoopla aims to assist prospective homebuyers in locating residences equipped with electric vehicle charging facilities.

The automotive manufacturer has joined forces with the property website to introduce innovative search capabilities that highlight charging infrastructure availability for listed properties.

This groundbreaking initiative enables users to identify homes featuring installed EV chargers whilst also providing information about public charging locations in the vicinity.

The collaboration represents an industry first, integrating essential charging infrastructure data into property searches as electric vehicle adoption continues to accelerate across Britain.

Drivers can now find which houses have an electric vehicle charger installed

These new features form part of Vauxhall's broader Electric Streets of Britain initiative, which seeks to expand charging accessibility nationwide.

The partnership addresses growing consumer demand for properties that support electric vehicle ownership.

Fresh research commissioned by Vauxhall indicates that two-fifths of British motorists view access to electric vehicle charging as a crucial consideration for their next property move.

It found that one in three respondents would be discouraged from purchasing a particular property due to insufficient charging facilities nearby.

Zoopla said it hoped the new collaboration would help EV drivers find their nearest charger

This figure jumps dramatically amongst current electric vehicle owners, with 84 per cent stating they would be put off by inadequate charging access.

The findings underscore the growing importance of charging infrastructure in property decisions, particularly as Britain approaches the 2030 deadline for new petrol and diesel vehicle sales.

More than half of those surveyed expressed interest in property platforms displaying information about local on-street charging facilities, highlighting consumer appetite for such features.

Daniel Copley, Consumer Expert at Zoopla, stated: "We're proud to be the first property website to offer consumers the ability to find the nearest on-street chargers to a property, and filter properties with home-charging.

There are more than 82,000 public EV chargers around the UK

"By improving Zoopla's search functionality, our aim is [to] empower more confident moving decisions, particularly for current and future EV owners."

Property seekers can now apply filters on Zoopla's platform to display exclusively those listings featuring installed home charging equipment.

The website and mobile application have integrated mapping functionality, powered by Octopus Electroverse data, enabling users to pinpoint the nearest public charging facilities for any listed property.

Distance information between properties and their closest charging points now appears alongside existing details about schools and railway stations on all listings.

Steve Catlin, Managing Director at Vauxhall, commented: "Moving house is one of the biggest decisions most of us make in our lifetime, and anyone who's done it knows how much effort can go into finding the perfect home.

"As EVs become an even more common sight on our roads, more and more people will be prioritising charging access when thinking about where to live."

Data from Zapmap shows that there are more than 82,000 public chargers across the UK at over 40,000 locations for EV drivers to use.

This is in addition to more than one million electric vehicle chargers installed at homes and workplaces across the UK.
