The American military said on Friday that it had killed a senior Isis commander in a raid in Syria.
The Iraqi counterterrorism service confirmed that a senior leader of Isis had been killed in a military operation in Syria which had been carried out in coordination with the US-led international coalition.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on social media: "Omar Abdul Qader was an Isis member actively seeking to attack the United States.
"His death disrupts the terrorist organisation's ability to plot and carry out future attacks threatening Americans and our partners."
Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, said: "We will not yield in our pursuit of terrorists seeking to attack the United States, our forces, or allies and partners abroad.
"I commend the efforts of our skilled warfighters and all who supported them during this mission."
According to the Iraqi service, the militant was known as "Abdul Rahman al-Halabi" and was the group's head of external operations and security.
It added that he had been accused of overseeing attacks in multiple countries, including the bombing of Iran's embassy in Lebanon, as well as planning other operations in Europe and the US which were foiled by intelligence operations.

CENTCOM has undertaken a series of strikes in Syria targeting top figures in Isis.
Following the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad last December US officials have warned the group is trying to stage a comeback in the country.
Earlier this year Donald Trump issued threats to Isis terrorists after a series of precision air strikes.
The US Government announced in February that the US Africa Command had killed "multiple operatives" who were hiding in Isis caves in Somalia.

The President said: "This morning, I ordered precision military air strikes on the Senior Isis Attack Planner and other terrorist he recruited and led in Somalia.
"These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our allies.
"The strikes destroyed the caves they live in, and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians.
"Our Military has targeted this Isis Attack Planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn't act quickly enough to get the job done. I did!
"The message to Isis and all others who would attack Americans is that 'we will find you, and we will kill you!'."
