NextImg:Aldi unveils 'perfectly refreshing' £2 tipples as demand skyrockets – but Britons must act fast

Interest in canned wine has doubled across Britain since early summer, with online searches jumping by 100 per cent from June onwards.

Budget retailer Aldi has positioned itself to capitalise on this growing trend with "pocket-sized" options priced at just £1.89.

The supermarket chain's 20cl cans of sparkling wine have emerged as an affordable entry point for consumers seeking portable alternatives to traditional bottles.

These miniature servings eliminate the need for corkscrews or glassware, making them particularly appealing for outdoor gatherings and summer events.

The discount chain offers two varieties in its canned range. The Pinot Grigio Fizz delivers a traditional white wine spritzer experience, "perfectly refreshing for any outdoor scenario".

Meanwhile, the Pinot Grigio Blush Fizz provides a fruitier alternative with its light, sparkling rosé character.

Both products come in identical 20cl servings at £1.89 each, designed for single-portion consumption.

The retailer describes these as ideal for various outdoor settings, from garden gatherings to music festivals and park picnics.

With its compact, canned format, Aldi hopes to deliver a "convenient and affordable way to enjoy [the nation's] favourite tipple in the sun".

The ready-to-drink options require no preparation or additional equipment, making them particularly attractive for spontaneous occasions or venues where glass containers face restrictions.

Wine specialists have endorsed these portable options as suitable choices for summer drinking.

According to Aldi wine expert and Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn, canned wines are a game-changer for summer sipping.

"There used to be a perception that canned wine wasn’t up to scratch – but that's simply not the case. There's been a real shift in quality in recent years, and people can now feel confident that what they're drinking from a can tastes just as good as wine from a bottle.

"Aldi's Pinot Grigio Fizz and Pinot Grigio Blush Fizz are great examples; they're well-made, stylish, and genuinely delicious."

But Britons must act fast if they want to secure the tasty tipples, as they are only available while stocks last.

Beyond canned options, Aldi has garnered attention for another budget-friendly wine.

The Spanish Toro Loco Superior Rosé, retailing at £5.49 for a 75cl bottle, has earned recognition from wine professionals, including Instagram influencer @affordablewinehunter.

The specialist described the Utiel-Requena region rosé as "dry, light, and refreshing" and "a solid mid-weeker", praising its value despite the modest price point.

Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with one shopper declaring it "the best wine" and another confirming: "Can't go wrong with Toro Loco."

Made from Bobal grapes, this Spanish offering has attracted loyal customers, though availability appears increasingly scarce as its reputation spreads.
