Was Jesus a Queer Black Female?
Breitbart News reports that Oscar-nominated Wicked star Cynthia Erivo will play the title role in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles this summer.
Of course she will, because the secular entertainment industry loves to provoke Christian audiences. It’s so edgy and brave, don’t ya know, to cast a black woman who identifies as “queer” as the Son of God.
Erivo previously sang in an all-female album version of Jesus Christ Superstar, titled She Is Risen, that was released in 2020. For that project she performed in the role of Mary Magdalene, while other female singers were cast as Jesus, Judas Iscariot, etc.
Is it too hopelessly Old School, too white, to point out that real historical figures should be played by performers who at least approximate the correct race and sex? Anne Boleyn, for example, should not be portrayed by a black woman, any more than Joan of Arc should be played by a man or Martin Luther King, Jr. should be played by a white man (imagine the howls of progressive outrage!). Taking woke liberties like this does a disservice to the show because the incongruous casting undermines the audience’s suspension of disbelief. But woke filmmakers don’t care about that because ideology trumps serving the audience.
In the case of Jesus, the incongruous casting has the added benefit of insulting Christians. The entertainment industry enjoys provoking and demonizing Christians because it is predominately Godless and because no one fears a Christian backlash.
I’m looking forward to a self-professed “queer” black woman playing the lead role in a musical about the Muslim prophet Muhammad, when the entertainment industry summons the balls to make one.
Tom Hanks, Bigot
Breitbart also reported that Oscar-winner Tom Hanks, whose name is almost always prefaced by “beloved actor,” appeared in a Saturday Night Live bit for the comedy show’s 50th anniversary on Sunday. The “beloved” star of Forrest Gump and Sleepless in Seattle played a racist Trump supporter.
The sketch featured Kenan Thompson as the host of a Black Jeopardy! game show, with comics Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan and Eddie Murphy as contestants. The skit was actually pretty funny, thanks to Murphy’s spot-on impression of Tracy Morgan (some of which seemed ad-libbed). But then some genius at SNL decided to cut Murphy’s time short and replace him with Tom Hanks for the last minute of the skit, for the sole purpose of smearing Trump-supporting Christians as inbred racists.
Hanks was reprising his role as Doug, the MAGA-hat wearing hick whose first appearance on Black Jeopardy! in 2016 found him agreeing with his fellow contestants about everything, except in the category “Lives That Matter.” This time he suggests that he make his own show, “White Jeopardy!”, to which Kenan Thompson responds, “We don’t need it. We don’t need it.”
At the close of the sketch, Thompson tries to shake hands with Hanks, who recoils because according to SNL, white MAGA folks don’t want to touch black people. Get it? They’re racist! Comedy gold!
Hanks was always a big Obama supporter but never publicly sank to the unhinged level of some frothing-at-the-mouth, profanity-spewing Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferers like, say, Robert De Niro, so conservative moviegoers always cut him some slack. But this utterly unnecessary, unfunny, and bigoted SNL cameo has turned off a huge number of now-former Hanks fans, if social media responses are any indication. His allegiance to Left-wing Hollywood just cost him the “beloved” label.
Hollywood will be the last bastion of progressives to care that this kind of smug, ugly contempt for the Americans in flyover country was a huge factor in last November’s red wave, and a primary reason that Hollywood’s domestic box office has cratered and that awards show viewers have abandoned them. Their wealth and privilege will insulate them from the consequences for a little while longer, until they gradually realize that entertainment has decentralized and that independent production companies around the country are making money hand over fist by catering to the underserved American public that Hollywood spurned.
Seinfeld Doesn’t Care About Palestine
Fox News reports that comedian Jerry Seinfeld refused to play along with a pro-Palestinian activist over the weekend who tried to ambush the Jewish comic into potentially endorsing an antisemitic message.
Instagram user “Subway DJ” posted a video of himself on Sunday meeting Seinfeld outside Radio City Music Hall, where Seinfeld appeared for an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live.
In the video, the activist is seen asking for a selfie, to which Seinfeld politely obliges. “Subway DJ” then throws up a peace sign and says, “Free Palestine.” When Seinfeld gives no response, he asks, “Maybe?”
For context, Seinfeld has been known to have little patience for pro-Palestine hecklers at his comedy shows, who have targeted him for his open support for Israel. He revealed in May of last year that his visit to Israel following the October 7, 2023 massacre by Hamas savages was “the most powerful experience of my life.”
“I don’t care about Palestine,” Jerry tells “Subway DJ” in the video as he walks away.
Bravo, Jerry. The Jew-hating supporters of Hamas – which is what pro-Palestinian activists and the vast majority of the so-called Palestinian people support – don’t care about Jews. Actually, it’s far worse than not caring – they want Jews exterminated. While accusing Israel of waging a genocide, their own chant to free Palestine “From the river to the sea” is an implicit call for the genocide of Jews like Seinfeld.
