NextImg:“We Will Have To Do Things for Saudi Arabia That Will Be Very Unpopular in This Country": Biden Aide

An excerpt from the extended piece on the Biden administration’s outreach to Hamas supporters in Michigan who refuse to vote for him unless he pressures Israel to stop bombing Hamas.

Biden dispatched Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer to meet with top Hamas supporters, including Osama Siblani, who had formerly said, “Mr. Bush believes Hezbollah, Hamas and other Palestinian factions are terrorists, but we believe they are freedom fighters.”

Finer cravenly apologized for Biden’s support for Israel.

Mr. Finer also said the Biden administration should have been faster to publicly condemn statements made by some Israeli officials that, in his words, compared “residents of Gaza to animals.” He said officials had not done so because they were trying to work with the Israeli government.

He did not clarify which Israeli officials he was referring to, but in the conflict’s early days, Yoav Gallant, the Israeli defense minister, said, “We are fighting human animals, and we are acting accordingly.” Some other Israeli officials have also faced criticism for dehumanizing language.

Gallant was clearly referring to Hamas. But then there was this bizarre comment by Finer.

“We will have to do things for Saudi Arabia that will be very unpopular in this country and in our Congress,” Mr. Finer said. “Will Israel be willing to do the hard thing that’s going to be required of them, which is meaningful steps for the Palestinians on the question of two states? I don’t know if the answer to that is yes. I do not have any confidence in this current government of Israel.”

Why do we have to do things for Saudi Arabia?

What are these things that will be “very unpopular in this country and in our Congress”?

Why is the president of the United States doing things for the Saudis that will be “very unpopular in this country”?

I presume from the context that it may refer to unilateral recognition of the PLO terror state by the Biden administration, but that’s just guesswork.

It’s an ominous and troubling remark, especially considering the long history of the Saudis calling the shots even when their people were killing thousands of Americans.
