When Kamala picked Gov. Tim Walz, she thought she was getting a bona fide war hero to stand behind her.
Turns out that the only combat Tim saw was squabbling over gelatos in Italy. Not only did Gov. Walz duck and run when he knew he would have to serve in Iraq, but he launched his political career as a war veteran. Living a lie, Walz spent the years since carefully massaging his phrases to make it sound like he had been in a war zone.
“In the years after that classroom, I had the privilege of serving in this state’s national guard. I stood one night in the dark of night on the tarmac at Bagram Air Base and watched a military ramp ceremony–a soldier’s body being loaded onto a plane to be returned home,” Walz said in a 2021 speech.
Walz kept playing this little game where he groups events together or leaves out context to make it seem like he’s seen war (he did this also with a speech about PTSD).
There’s intentionality behind that.
