In a political system with any sense of remaining legal niceties, boasting that the indictment of your Republican political opponent is “nearly identical” to the work of a partisan Democrat committee would be seen as dangerous. But the weaponization of the justice system is such that the Democrats flaunt what they’re doing in high-profile media writeups like this.
Trump Jan. 6 Indictment Relies Heavily on House Panel’s Work – New York Times
No kidding.
The partisan Democrat J6 committee, the paper tells us “provided a road map of sorts for the 45-page indictment Mr. Smith released on Tuesday.”
Soumya Dayananda, a senior investigator for the House Democrat Jan. 6 panel, says “in a lot of ways, the committee’s work provided this path.”
“Mr. Smith’s document — while far slimmer than the 845-page tome produced by the House investigative committee — contained a narrative that was nearly identical,” the article contends. The Democrat committee’s “final report laid out specific criminal charges that a prosecutor could bring against the former president.”
“Mr. Smith brought charges that had been recommended by the committee, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction of an act of Congress and conspiracy to make a false statement. He added an accusation of deprivation of rights under the color of law.”
So, much like Russiagate, a partisan operation created a roadmap of allegations that were then passed along to investigators and prosecutors.
Everyone involved is bragging that a Democrat operation generated the illegitimate charges that were then acted on by a Democrat prosecutor targeting his party’s prospective presidential opponent in 2024.
This isn’t even a banana republic. It makes banana republics look like models of law and order.
It’s simply Democrats manufacturing charges to indict their political opponents. And with articles like these, they’re not even bothering to pretend otherwise.
