I was on the scene at the assault on the Adas Torah synagogue in Los Angeles by Islamists and leftists during which local authorities chose to do nothing. Just as they’d done nothing during the UCLA riots and the previous assault on a Holocaust museum screening an Oct 7 documentary. Afterwards there were high-profile condemnations, but no actions, and the perpetrators got a pass even though the FACE Act specifically criminalizes blocking access to houses of worship. The Biden admin, like most administrations, ignored the ‘houses of worship’ provision and focused only on using it to penalize pro-life protesters.

The Trump administration however is using the FACE Act to go after a similar synagogue riot in New Jersey.

Today, the Justice Department filed a civil complaint under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act against entities and individuals who targeted a synagogue in West Orange, New Jersey, during a November 2024 protest that escalated into violence.

The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, alleges that the defendants engaged in threats of force, intimidation, and violent conduct directed at congregants of the Congregation Ohr Torah synagogue. According to the complaint, the defendants’ actions were intended to interfere with the synagogue community’s right to freely exercise their religion, including gathering for a religious ceremony to honor the life of a deceased rabbi.

“No American should be harassed, targeted, or discriminated against for peacefully practicing their religion,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “Today’s lawsuit underscores this Department of Justice’s commitment to defending Jewish Americans — and all Americans of faith — from those who would threaten their right to worship.”

“This Justice Department will vigorously enforce the right of every American to worship in peace and without fear,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “Those who target houses of worship and violate our federal laws protecting people of faith are on notice that they will face the consequences.”

The Biden admin could have and should have done it. Had they done, the synagogue attacks would have stopped, but instead there was a blank check for more of the same.

In New Jersey, much like LA, the local authorities charged Jews, and let the leftists and Islamists go.

Outside, jihadi 42-year-old Altaf Sharif attacked 64-year-old David Silberberg, choking him and rolling him down a hill. Dr. Moshe Glick intervened, using a flashlight to separate the attacker from Silberberg, fearing for his life. Despite video evidence supporting Glick’s actions as self-defense, Glick was charged with bias intimidation, aggravated assault, and possession of a deadly weapon.

No charges were filed against Sharif, who reportedly lied to the police, and the video evidence was ignored. Glick’s defense, backed by several security experts, argues that his intervention was necessary to save Silberberg’s life.

At the bottom of the hill, between the synagogue and a fire station, the assault continued. There was deep concern by bystanders as Silberberg was significantly smaller in stature than Sharif. “While he still had David Silberberg in a chokehold, with his head facing down toward the asphalt in the shul parking lot,” Dr. Glick recalled, “I saw his legs buckle and feared his neck was broken or that he was being choked out. I believed his life was in danger.”

Throughout the attack, Dr. Glick repeatedly called for police intervention, but the officers who were deployed at the top of the hill did not respond. Despite his attempts to push the attacker off Silberberg, Dr. Glick made no progress against Sharif’s grip. At that point, Silberberg’s legs had begun to buckle. Forced to make a split-second decision, Dr. Glick used the 6-inch flashlight he had been holding to illuminate the dark area to separate Sharif and get him to release his dangerous grasp of Silberberg’s neck. As a result, Silberberg was finally free of the attacker. “I had no choice but to jump in and rescue him,” Dr. Glick said.

After Dr. Glick separated the attacker, the police arrived on the scene.

Dr. Glick now faces four criminal charges, including second-degree bias intimidation, aggravated assault, and two charges related to his possession of a deadly weapon (referring to the 6-inch flashlight he was holding)

The Trump admin however is going after American Muslims for Palestine and the Party for Socialism and Liberation. As well as Sharif.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) was founded in 2004, following an organizational fissure within the Marxist-Leninist Workers World Party (WWP) that resulted in three WWP member branches — based respectively in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C — breaking away to form their own group

PSL is a strong supporter of Fidel Castro‘s Cuban government and the socialist “Bolivarian Revolution” led by Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. It also holds a favorable view of Mao Zedong‘s Cultural Revolution in 1960s China.

And AMP.

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) is a major supporter of the pro-Hamas campus group, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). Several of AMP’s recent board members and key officials were previously members of, and worked closely with, now-defunct Islamic extremist groups that funded terrorist activities.

. These groups included:

the Islamic Association for Palestine (which, until its dissolution in 2004, served as the chief U.S. propaganda arm of Hamas);

the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (which from 1995-2001 contributed approximately $12.4 million in money, goods, and services to Hamas); and

KindHearts for Charitable Humanitarian Development (whose assets were frozen in 2006 by the U.S. Treasury Department because of its fundraising activities on behalf of Hamas).

The usual suspects are already complaining about the move.

The Bergen Record described this as a “rare law.” The FACE Act is not a rare law. It’s used all the time to go after pro-life people. The Left is just unhappy that it’s being used to go after their own. It was fine when the FACE Act was used to justify FBI raids on pro-life protesters who blocked doors resulting in multi-year prison sentences. Imagine the pro-Hamas rioters facing similar charges.

(That’s not on the table under the current filing. But that’s a start.)

The media won’t mention moments like this from the DOJ filing on the synagogue attack, but this is what they’re covering up and defending.

Camins, who had initially attempted to restrain Sharif, changed his stance, pointed at Silberberg, and shouted, “The Jew is here!”
