Why? The RNC made a big show of cutting ties with the debate commission after it allowed leftist media figures to moderate presidential debates while pushing their biased agendas that had nothing to do with Republican voters.
But why bother doing that just to bring back Lester Holt and Kirsten Welker?
NBC’s Lester Holt and Kristen Welker are set to moderate the third Republican primary debate alongside morning talk show host Hugh Hewitt, NBC announced on Wednesday.
So for every question about the border, there’ll be two questions about “climate change”, “election denial”, “systemic racism” and the suffering of “transgender teens”.
Apart from the bias, this hijacks the debate into complete irrelevancies. And the only goal of Welker and Holt will be to damage everyone on stage and push leftist narratives.
This is a table that the debate commission could have easily picked. And did.
Kristen Welker moderated a Trump-Biden debate and repeatedly interrupted Trump. The media praised her for it.
Throughout Welker’s tenure as a White House correspondent, she has earned a reputation for a scathing style of questioning.
“Mr. President, yes or no. … have you ever worked for Russia. Yes or no?” she demanded during a confrontation in January 2019.
The treatment stands in stark contrast to her handling of Democratic politicos.
In March 2016 Welker was busted on live television tipping off Hillary Clinton’s Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri about at least one question she planned to ask her during a post-debate interview in Michigan. At the time Clinton was locked in a fierce fight for the Democratic nomination against Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Lester Holt moderated the 2016 debate leading to this infamous moment.
HOLT: “Stop and frisk” was ruled unconstitutional in New York because it largely singled out black and Hispanic young men.
TRUMP: No, you’re wrong. It went before a judge who was a very against-police judge. It was taken away from her, and our mayor — our new mayor — refused to go forward with the case. They would have won on appeal. If you look at it, throughout the country, there are many places where it’s —
HOLT: The argument is that it’s a form of racial profiling.
The RNC didn’t just have leftist media hacks moderating the debate, it brought back retreads who had already done it and showed off their bias.
It’s just completely indefensible.
