NextImg:Putin Prefers "Predictable" Biden to Unpredictable Trump

If you can’t trust Vladimir Putin to vouch for Biden’s mental state, who can you trust? I mean he’s got our best interests at heart and wants us to have the very best leadership possible. Right?

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday Joe Biden would be better for Russia as president than Donald Trump, ahead of a potential rematch between the two in this year’s U.S. election.

“[Biden] is a more experienced, predictable person. He is a politician of the old school. But we will work with any leader of the United States, who is trusted by the American people,” Putin said in an interview on broadcaster Rossiya 1 TV when asked to choose between the two.

Putin used Wednesday’s interview to downplay speculation about Biden’s cognitive health, recalling when the two met in Switzerland in June 2021, less than a year before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“When I met with Biden in Switzerland — it was, indeed, a few years ago, three years — even then there were talks about him being incompetent. I saw nothing of the sort. Yes, he glanced at his notes. Honestly, I glanced at mine too,” Putin said. “There’s nothing to it.”

Why would Putin say this? Let’s look at the START treaty.

In his first phone call with Putin, President Trump blasted the START treaty as a bad deal that gave Moscow a free ride.

While Trump rejected an extension, Biden gave Putin a 5-year extension with no preconditions.

Now there’s talk that Russia is putting nukes in space after Biden signed off on a worthless accord that limited our weapons program but allowed the Russians to do whatever they wanted.

The media positioned Biden as tough on Russia over the Ukraine war. Democrats have been claiming that Trump would give Ukraine to Russia. But then again...

Speaking at a campaign event in North Charleston, S.C., Mr. Trump said that, under a Biden presidency, Mr. Putin is “going to be given everything he wants, including Ukraine. That’s a gift. He’s got a gift.”

Then Mr. Trump — who often positively invokes Mr. Putin as an authoritarian strongman, and who acknowledged in his speech that they got along — doubled down, saying that Mr. Biden “is going to give” Ukraine to Mr. Putin.

There’s a reason that Putin prefers Biden to Trump. Biden is, as he said, “predictable.”

Putin had a pretty good idea of what Biden would do every step of the way. And that’s what enemies prefer. They want predictable opponents. Unpredictable opponents are dangerous and hard to account for.

Moscow is happy to see chaos internally in America, but it wants the people at the helm to be, as Putin put it, politicians of the “old school”.

So if Russia is going to help anyone in this election, it will be Biden.
